In the quest to find their dream home, many couples without kids may choose not to think about quality of local school districts in their new community, instead focusing on other factors, including proximity to nature or entertainment, size of the home, and price of the house overall. And at first glance, this makes sense – what’s the point of considering the quality of a school district if you don’t have children who will attend?

But while this logic may seem sound at first glance, in reality potential homebuyers without children may still wish to consider the strength of the school district in their future neighborhood before making a purchase. To be sure, consider the results of a recent study conducted by Trulia, which asserted that 34 percent of Millennials (those born from the early 1980s to the early 2000s) place quality of school district over location when considering a home purchase. Ultimately, this means that one third of this youthful cohort is largely interested in purchasing a home based on proximity to good schools; and, if you already own a home in one of these areas, this could bode well for your ability to sell it in the future.

Furthermore, a March 2015 article published by Public School Review asserts that a good school district also correlates with home value stability. Specifically, the author posits that “Homes can go up or down in value based on macro-volatility or local area changes, but a great school district can act as a lynchpin for strong values in a given area, and a life preserver when the market is rough.”
